KidsXpress Telemedicine: Care From Wherever You Are

Part 3 of 4 · Helping families understand their care options.

Before starting a virtual visit, many parents have the same practical question: what will it cost? There is not one answer that applies to every family. Telehealth charges and out-of-pocket costs can depend on the healthcare provider, insurance coverage, and the services involved. [1]

For KidsXpress telemedicine, contact the clinic and your insurer to confirm the terms for your specific visit. This article explains the questions worth asking; it does not publish a fixed telemedicine price or promise that a particular plan will pay.

Does KidsXpress accept insurance for telemedicine?

KidsXpress publishes a general accepted-insurance list on its Insurance page. That list is a starting point for contacting the clinic, not a guarantee that a specific telemedicine visit is covered. Ask whether KidsXpress participates with your exact plan for the virtual service you are scheduling.

Then confirm the benefit with your insurer. Ask about any copay, deductible, coinsurance, network requirement, or other condition that applies. Insurance participation and coverage for an individual service are different questions. [1]

Which insurance plans are accepted?

The clinic's general Insurance page lists Aetna, BCBS Alabama, Cigna, Humana, Medicaid, Tricare, UnitedHealthcare, and Viva Health. Plan details can change, and not every product offered by an insurer has the same network or telehealth benefits.

Do not rely on an insurer's name alone. Have your insurance card ready and ask the clinic to confirm the specific plan, patient eligibility, and telemedicine service. If you have Medicaid or another public plan, ask about its current virtual-care rules rather than assuming they match a private plan. [1]

What if my child does not have insurance? Is there a self-pay option?

Contact KidsXpress to ask whether a self-pay option is available for the telemedicine visit you need, what the current fee is, and what that fee includes. Ask when payment is due and which payment methods can be used for a virtual appointment.

KidsXpress also advertises a $150 flat rate for eligible in-person urgent-care services. Do not assume that this rate applies to telemedicine. A virtual visit may have different pricing or terms; the clinic must confirm those details before you rely on a price.

Does insurance coverage vary based on the visit?

Yes, coverage can depend on your insurance benefits and the service provided. A plan may have requirements about which provider you see or how a virtual appointment is arranged. Ask your insurer what applies to your child's particular visit rather than relying on a general statement that telehealth is covered. [1]

A covered appointment does not always mean there is no out-of-pocket cost. Your plan may still apply a copay, deductible, or coinsurance. If you receive a benefit estimate, ask what it is based on and whether the final amount can change after the claim is processed. [1]

What should I know before starting a visit?

Before booking, confirm whether your visit will use insurance or self-pay, whether the clinic is in-network for the service, and what payment is expected. Ask whether any forms or insurance details must be provided before the appointment. HHS recommends contacting the provider or insurer about cost before a telehealth visit. [1]

Keep a note of the information you receive, including the date and who answered your questions. If anything is unclear, ask again before the visit starts. Knowing the payment terms helps you make an informed choice without assuming a general website description is a personalized benefit determination.

What if the provider recommends an in-person examination?

A virtual appointment may lead to a recommendation for a hands-on examination or testing. Ask the clinic how charges are handled if another visit or service is needed. Do not assume a virtual fee automatically includes a later in-person visit, laboratory test, imaging, or medicine.

Payment questions should not delay emergency care. If you believe your child has a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Who can help me confirm the details?

Call KidsXpress at (844) 871-5437 (KIDS) for current clinic payment information, and use the member-services number on your insurance card for benefit questions. You can also visit our Contact page or review the clinic's general Insurance information.

When you are ready to schedule a virtual appointment, choose Telemedicine on the KidsXpress scheduling page. Confirm the current coverage and fee first so the next step is clear for your family.
